SYDNEY CUP WEIGHTS

The 2026 Sydney Cup weights have been published and former Willie Mullins runner Vauban has been given the top weight. According to co-trainer Adrian Bott Vauban is unlikely to run in the Sydney Cup, instead prioritising the 2400m Tancred Stakes on March 28th and then possibly having a Queensland campaign (interview & comment from Bott were found on Road To The Championships 24/2/26 edition).

The next in line in the Sydney Cup Order of Entry is River Of Stars and Apulia. River Of Stars was touted to possibly be heading to Dubai for a tilt at the Dubai Gold Cup on March 28th, ruling her out of a Sydney Cup is connections head to the Middle East. Meanwhile, Apulia a nomination that’s a little left field in my opinion, would have to carry 57KG if he contests the Sydney Cup. He won the Perth Cup on New Year’s Day around 8 weeks ago and has not raced since. It would be a phenomenal training feat given the horse was off the track for close to a year between 2024 and 2025.
