Lew Dub Wrong! Saint George Not Qualified Yet

Over the weekend the Staying The Distance YouTube channel published a video replay of the G3 Naturalism Stakes. The 2000m handicap was won by Zahrann, with Saint George running a length 2nd. In a rare moment of Melbourne Cup inaccuracy I - Lew Dub announced that Saint George had qualified for the big race courtesy of his deeds in the Naturalism. I was wrong!

Saint George is still yet to qualify for the Melbourne Cup as he hasn’t completed one of the Relevant Race Performances described in the Melbourne Cup Conditions document. You can also find those Relevant Race Performances in the Melbourne Cup Order of Entry Prediction video I published also or you can read further and find them below.

If Saint George does not win one of the eleven Golden Ticket Races he can qualify for the Melbourne Cup by;

A) since 1 February 2025 inclusive, won or was placed 2nd or 3rd in an internationally recognised

Group or Graded flat race run over 2300 metres or further; OR

B) since 1 February 2025 inclusive, was placed 4th or 5th in an internationally recognised Group 1 or Grade 1 flat race run over 2300 metres or further in which horses older than 3 years old could run, OR

C) since 1 February 2025 inclusive, won an internationally recognised Listed flat race run over 2300 metres or further, OR

D) since 1 February 2026 inclusive, won the Northumberland Plate (UK), OR

E) was placed 6th, 7th or 8th in the 2026 MRC Caulfield Cup, OR

F) since 1 February 2025 inclusive, won or was placed 2nd or 3rd in an internationally recognised

Group 1 or Graded 1 flat race run over 2000 metres or further; OR

G) since 1 February 2025 inclusive, won or was placed 2nd or 3rd in one of the eleven 2026 Ballot exempt races listed above, OR

H) won or was placed 2nd or 3rd in the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup, OR

Since realising the error the video was edited to prevent the spread of false information to more people. Apologies to anyone who went out and placed a Melbourne Cup Futures Bet after hearing that information. He was mentioned in the 2026 Order of Entry Prediction video as he is popular with racing fans, but for what it’s worth, I don’t see Saint George being in the first three of the 2026 Melbourne Cup.
